People always ask me how I find the trails that I hike around Boone, and the answer is not always the same. Most of the time I use an app called AllTrails to find hikes that match what type of hike I am looking for. It is a very user friendly app that allows you to customize the type of hike you a looking for using filters for difficulty, length, the elevation gain on the hike; as well as the rating others have given the trail and things to see and do along the trail. They even offer options for dog and wheelchair friendly trails! It is important to choose a trail based on your experience and what you feel comfortable with. While in the explore tab in the bottom corner you are able to search trails near you and see the difficulty rating of the trail. If you click on a trail it will pull up a trail profile and give you the option for directions to the trail. It is important that you begin the directions while you still have cell service because of the limited availability near most trailheads. Alltrails also offers a subscription to the app which is paid monthly or a lifetime subscription, the subscription allows for trail maps to be downloaded to your phone to view without service. I hope this information was useful to those looking to find new trails, or those just looking for their first trail, there are options for everyone! Remember take only pictures, leave only footsteps.
